“What are you going to do?”

“Le Fe’s killer is out there,” Remy said.

Sloane frowned. “You’re a bounty hunter, not a PI.”

“So?”

“Why do this?” she asked him warily. “You didn’t like who he was or what he did. It’s not your responsibility to catch his killer.”

“I need to.”

“Why?” she asked again.

“The person who killed him is likely a high-level assassin. Someone with a skill set similar to my own. The type of person who won’t have too many qualms about taking anyone out who gets too close.”

“Including me,” she exclaimed. “You’re still protecting me.”

“I’m asking you to partner with me on this,” he said.

“You act like this is personal.”

“It involves you, doesn’t it?”

She willed herself to be strong. “I’m not going to say no.”

“Good.”

She sighed. “Stay out of trouble. If you cross the line, I can’t protect you.”
